Why I started DJ Home Textiles

I finished my MBA in Marketing in 2026 and spent months going to interviews. The answer kept coming back no. For a while, I honestly did not know what I was supposed to do next.

Then something very ordinary gave me an idea. My mother had bought some new bedsheets, and I was not happy with the quality. I told her, "Mumma, what kind of bedsheets are these? You could have bought something better."

My father looked at me and said:

“Toh jao, khud khareed ke lao.”

He also reminded me of something I still think about. We should be grateful that we can afford what we need, because really good things are not within every family's budget.

That stayed with me. Why should a beautiful, good-quality bedsheet be something people have to think twice about? Why can't an ordinary family have a bedroom that looks and feels premium, without spending too much?

A week on the road

I did not know much about the textile business. I had no real experience with fabrics, manufacturers, pricing, or which designs people would like. So, with money borrowed from my father and flight tickets paid for by my brother, I went to learn.

I travelled to different parts of India, visited factories and manufacturers in Panipat, Jaipur and Amritsar, compared fabrics and looked at more designs than I can count, trying to understand what good quality actually means before I spent a single rupee. Within about a week, I picked my first collection and placed my first order.

Every textile town has its own speciality, and that is what I learnt first:

• Jaipur is famous for its Jaipuri prints.
• Panipat is one of India's oldest textile towns. Prices are lower, transport is easy, and there are many kinds of cotton to choose from, which means more choice for our customers.
• Amritsar gives A-grade quality at good prices. Its dohars are something I would love to bring to the shop in future.

That was the beginning of DJ Home Textiles, here in Hyderabad.

How I pick a design

I still choose every design myself, and I check the same four things each time:

• Fabric: what it is made of, and how well it will hold up.
• Feel: how it feels when you touch it and sleep on it.
• Colours: colours that look good in a real bedroom, not only in a photo.
• Pattern: a print that sits well on the bed and is easy to match, without any fuss.

I am sure of the quality of the bedsheets I sell. Good quality lasts much longer, and I keep my prices close to the market, so you get premium bedsheets at an affordable price.

Where we are now

We are still at the beginning. I am still learning, and I will not pretend that I have all the answers. But I know why I started: to bring beautiful bedsheets and pillow covers to families at prices they can afford, so that anyone can make their bedroom look lovely without spending a fortune.

For me, this is about more than selling bedsheets. It is about building something of my own, doing honest work, and making something people find genuinely useful.

Where I want to take it

A year from now, I see DJ Home Textiles as a one-stop place for your home, where you can find bedsheets, blankets, dohars, carpets and curtains, all in one place.

If this journey has taught me one thing, it is this. When things do not go the way you planned, it does not always mean you should give up. Sometimes it means you need to find a different path. DJ Home Textiles is mine.
